Spandan ’25 – A New Start

26th March, 2025 was an auspicious day for me and I’ll tell you specifically why that is. I’ll try not to go into too much detail but I also can’t guarantee that either.

Let’s start from the beginning

I’ve (Karma) been beatboxing for 11 years, meaning my beginnings arise from the year 2014. I was 10 years old and just got the hang of using a computer and the Internet. Like lots and most beatboxers, I watched old school beatboxers like Rahzel, Joseph Poolpo, Reeps One and more who contributed to my journey.

I began experimenting with my basics because honestly, there was really nothing else going on around that time. Other than a couple special sounds here and there, y’know, when they were more of a scarce thing. I wasn’t exactly good but I got the hang of it eventually.

I then figured out that I was really good at mimicking other beatboxers and I used this method to learn all their special sounds. This helped me get good at recognizing how sounds worked and what was required for me to do in order to do them. This then also applied to more advanced versions of fundamental basics and helped me shape the beatbox I perform today

Back to the Present

Now, I’ve taken on the alias of Karma Beatbox, YES which is also my LEGAL NAME. I had only really interacted with the International online scene of beatbox, completely oblivious to the fact that my own Indian community was sitting right under my nose and I just never bothered to check it out. So, in 2022, the Delhi Beatbox Championships was around the corner and I thought, why not? This would be a great way to introduce myself into the Indian scene. From there, my whole life changed, I met Parth, one of my best friends and now Tag Team partner and honestly, my only real rival.

Fast forward to now, there have been lots of beatbox events that have happened since 2022. Parth has usually won, and I would fall behind. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the challenge. I would always hype myself up to battle Parth because he would be my favorite person to battle. Mostly because we have inside jokes and we got to perform as our Tag Team from time to time.

But, this time was different

On 26th March, 2025, Spandan’25 hosted by the National Institute of Management. Now I was the Vice Champion of this tournament the previous year after battling with Parth in the Finals, but this year, it was different. Then I climbed through the ranks, placed 1st in the Eliminations and cut through my competition. I then found myself face to face with Parth again.

I was honestly a little nervous, as I had come to this competition on a whim. After travelling 2-3 hours from my University in Sonipat, all the way to this tournament, I had no real expectations. Once our battle in the finals was over, all we had to do now was wait.

We got up to the stage with the judges N-Grave and Tan’nin. N-Grave got between us and held each of our hands. I was low-key drifting off expecting Parth to win. That was, until I felt my hand raised up and I looked at Parth in disbelief. I had won. Karma had won.

It was absolutely liberating, I had never won any beatbox events before and this would be my first. Obviously this was nothing new to Parth but he was happy for me and so was everyone else. This was all I needed and this is now going to push me to be even better.

HUMONGOUS shoutout to the entire Delhi Beatbox Community, my life has changed since entering this scene and now working for it as well!
