Judging the Sharda University Beatbox Battle

A Day to Remember

Recently, we had the honour of being called as official judges for the Beatbox Battle at Sharda University. Alongside my co-judge, Drifter Raunak, we were excited to witness the talent and energy of the participants.

Arrival and Welcome

The hospitality from Sharda University was remarkable. We were provided with a cab from the university itself, ensuring a smooth journey. Upon reaching, the official team warmly welcomed us and escorted us straight to the venue of the Beatbox Battles. The event was set in a spacious open area, providing a perfect stage for the battles.

The Elimination Round – Leading up to The Beatbox Battles

The competition started with the elimination rounds, where each participant had their moment to showcase their skills. Here is a breakdown of how they performed:

  • Akshay Vishnoi – Akshay delivered a good set with impressive singing skills, which stood out. However, his basic drum skills needed improvement. Regardless, he gave his best effort.
  • Parth (Pvrth) – Parth performed an incredible house set, maintaining a consistent volume throughout. His basses were solid, and his signature triple BMG was, as always, a treat to hear.
  • Shivam Bhatia – Shivam’s concept for the set was creative, but at times, his scales went off and sounded inconsistent. However, with a bit of refinement, he has great potential. Wishing him a strong comeback in the future!
  • Rudraksh (RDX) – Rudraksh showcased his own unique basic drum style, which was refreshing. However, his fundamentals could be stronger. Still, his originality was commendable.
  • Yash – Yash executed smooth flowy patches with good structure, making his performance stand out.
  • Madhav Singh – Madhav’s set was sharp and clean, but he lacked seamless transitions. Nonetheless, his clarity was one of the best in the competition.

Top 4 Finalists

After the elimination rounds, the top 4 beatboxers who made it to the selection battles were:

  1. Parth (Pvrth)
  2. Madhav Singh
  3. Rudraksh (RDX)
  4. Yash

These four showcased outstanding skills and advanced to the next stage, where they competed in intense battles.

Selection Battles

After eliminations, the top performers moved into the selection battles, and things got intense.

Battle 1: Pvrth vs. Madhav

Parth displayed strong, consistent techniques and executed complex patches, giving him an edge. On the other hand, Madhav was clean but lacked structured execution and, seemingly, a diverse arsenal of routines. Parth took the win.

Battle 2: RDX vs. Yash

RDX brought powerful beats and captivating intros, but his set was slightly messy. Meanwhile, Yash was precise and flowy but started repeating patches after the first round. This made the decision difficult, leading us to call for an OT (Overtime) battle, where each had 30 seconds to perform.

RDX delivered another solid set, but this time Yash elevated his performance, showing fresh ideas and strong execution. Yash won the battle.

The Grand Finale: Pvrth vs. Yash

This final beatbox battle was insane, with both participants going toe-to-toe.

  • Parth displayed snappy patches, a dominant stage presence, and a consistent flow of new ideas.
  • Yash had strong counters, great combos, and intelligent structuring, but he fell into some repetition.

Due to Parth’s continuous creativity and diverse routines, we both judges declared him the winner. The crowd was fully engaged, making the final an electrifying experience.

Closing Moments & Hospitality

After the intense battles, both Raunak (Drifter) and I (Rawr) received acknowledgment certificates and gifts for judging the event. The organizing team did a fantastic job, and to top it all off, we were treated to some amazing food, making the entire day even better.

Sharda University truly delivered a well-organized and entertaining beatbox battle, and it was an honour to be part of it. Looking forward to more such incredible events in the future!
