April 30, 2025
Entries for the WILDCARD Competition will be accepted from 1st May until 30th May, 10:00 PM
To enter the WILDCARD Competition, participants must upload their WILDCARD to YouTube with #DBC25.
The title of the Wildcard Video must be labelled as follows: [ARTIST NAME] – #DBC25: DELHI BEATBOX CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 Wildcard.
Wildcard should be around 1:45 including the Introduction. (i.e. 15s Intro and 1:30 beatbox)
For the audio recording and post-processing, the goal is to make it sound balanced and clear, not too different from how it sounds in the original recording/in real life. Please keep in mind, the point of post-processing the audio is to make it easier for the wildcard judges to understand and analyse the sounds and execution of the routine.
Participants are encouraged to record in environments without excessive background noise, and to set the microphone gain properly to avoid clipping(distortion).
Recordings can be done in any form; smartphone audio/video, camera video & mic audio, etc. Along with the link to the wildcard video, we require participants to submit the raw recordings from the camera and mic.
All wildcard audio must be recorded at the same time as the video is recorded. NO LIPSYNCING. The entirety of the beatbox portion of the wildcard has to be shot at once, NO HARD CUTS.
Mix Rules:
Again, along with the link to the wildcard video, we require participants to submit the raw recordings from the camera and mic.
A selection of 31 Beatboxers will be selected from the Wildcard Competition (1 Pre-Qualification)
There’s a registration fee for the selected Top 32 beatboxers for entry into the Championship (i.e. Rs.500/-)
Here are the criteria for this year’s championship:
1. Originality – channeling your own style that sets you as a beatboxer apart. This can involve creating new vocal techniques, combining existing techniques in innovative ways, or simply having a signature sound that resonates with the listener. It’s about showcasing your own voice within the art form.
2. Execution – this all about how you deliver your sounds. If it’s a routine filled with technicality, execution determines whether the pattern/combo you used is delivered with precision, clarity and right dynamics. On the other hand, if the routine is more musical in nature, the execution of whether you hit the right note in your composition/melody you used will affect your score.
3. Structure – Your routine must have a good structure i.e the position of your Introduction, Build-up, Chorus, Bridge, Drop etc.
4. Clarity (of sound) – A sick beatbox set may not sound good if you are in a noisy surrounding or if you’re in a room with a lof of reverb. You must ensure that your routine is audible and all your crazy patterns are clear!
Note: an element of subjectivity does play a part in some of the criteria which stems from the judge’s music taste and liking when they score you. This is just a human trait.
All best to all the beatboxers! ESH!
